3D printing / ABS and ASA

3D printing with ABS and ASA

ABS is a classic for functional parts: tough, heat-resistant and easy to finish. It is demanding on an open printer, so we use an enclosed, actively heated chamber where it does not warp or delaminate.

Materials / ABS and ASA

ABS needs an enclosed chamber. We print it in an actively heated chamber reaching 65 °C.

ABS, ASA or another material?

ABS withstands loads and temperatures at which PLA softens: vehicle parts, enclosures and mechanical components. It also accepts sanding, bonding and acetone smoothing after printing.

ASA is the outdoor counterpart to ABS: the same toughness without fading or becoming brittle in sunlight. It is our first choice for outdoor or façade-mounted holders, caps and brackets.

For heavier loads or sustained high temperatures, we also offer polycarbonate, nylon and carbon-fibre composites. See the Materials page.

Why the chamber matters

ABS shrinks as it cools. On an open-frame printer, large parts can warp, lift off the bed or split between layers. An enclosed, actively heated chamber keeps the whole part at an even temperature during printing, so it comes out straight and strong.

That is why we used to decline ABS: we only promise results we can produce well. With the new machine, we can now offer it confidently.

How to order

Upload your file, select ABS or ASA from the material list, see an instant price and pay by card. Models with many overhangs or exceeding the build volume go for manual review and email confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

ABS or PETG for a functional part?

PETG is sufficient for most household parts and easier to print. ABS tolerates more heat and is easier to finish after printing. For a part in a sunny car or near something hot, choose ABS or ASA.

Does ABS smell during printing?

During printing, yes, so we use an enclosed chamber with a filter. The finished part has no smell.

How large can an ABS part be?

Up to the printer’s build volume of 256 × 256 × 260 mm. The heated chamber lets even large ABS parts print without warping.
