3D printing / two colours
Two-colour 3D printing within one layer
Our printer has two nozzles with mechanical switching. That means two colours in the SAME layer: an embedded logo, lettering or pattern, made from two colours of material rather than stickers or paint.

Capability / two colours
Two nozzles print two materials within the same layer, with a sharp boundary made from material, not paint.

What is and is not possible
Two colours can appear anywhere in the part, including the same layer: signs, logos, embedded lettering and patterns. The colours are separate bodies in the model. Upload a 3MF with two bodies or tell us which parts should use each colour.
Simpler options are also available: separate parts in different colours at no extra charge, or colour changes by height by arrangement.
Smooth gradients and more than two colours in one layer are not available. Email us about such projects and we will be clear about what is possible.
Why does it cost 25% more?
At every colour change within a layer, the nozzle is purged, using extra material and time. Two-colour printing takes longer and has a higher failure rate. The 25% printing surcharge covers this without hidden extras; delivery does not increase.
Typical uses
Company signs and logos with an embedded second colour; numbered tokens and badges; boxes with contrasting lettering; board games with two-colour spaces; educational models where colour conveys meaning.
Frequently asked questions
How should I prepare a two-colour model?
Best results come from two separate STL files sharing coordinates, or one 3MF with two bodies, one per colour. If you have one file and want lettering in another colour, email us. We can often split the model as a bespoke service.
Why only PLA and polycarbonate?
The machine’s second nozzle is officially recommended for these materials, giving a low failure rate and predictable quality. Other combinations are arranged by email rather than promised without testing.
Can you print two MATERIALS, not just two colours?
Yes, by arrangement: for example, a rigid body with a soft TPU pad, or soluble supports for complex cavities. Tell us what you need and we will confirm price and lead time.
